Airport High Welcomes Special Olympics Athletes for Spring Games

Airport High School recently transformed its campus into a celebration of inclusion and achievement as it hosted the Area 7 Spring Games of the South Carolina Special Olympics.

The event brought together approximately 250 athletes from Lexington School Districts Two and Four, as well as Special Olympics for Life, for a fun-filled day of friendly competition. Events included track and field activities, goal kicks, bocce ball, and more—each one met with cheers and encouragement from the crowd.

Supporting the athletes were about 100 student volunteers from Airport High, who helped run events and cheer on participants throughout the day.

“It was a highlight of our year at Airport High to host these athletes,” said Principal Matt Schilit. “The smiles and energy were contagious and filled my heart with such joy. Hosting this event gave us the opportunity to put on a memorable day for all involved.”

The games highlighted not only athletic talent, but also the powerful spirit of community, inclusion, and joy that defines the Special Olympics.
