Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Columbia is has announced Dusty Conine as the Community Impact Award winner. United Way of the Midlands presents this award annually to a volunteer that is viewed as a leader and is actively involved in their community.
Conine has been a “Big Brother” to his “Little Brother” Aymir in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Columbia program since 2016. Since being matched, Conine and Aymir have grown closer by attending USC games, visiting Frankie’s Fun Park, visiting local restaurants, going to the park to play basketball and working on homework together. One of the main reasons Conine expressed a desire to become a mentor, was to give another child opportunities he did not have growing up in a single-parent household.
“When I was a child, we did not always have the resources available for me to experience many of the things desired, so as an adult, I wanted to give back. I understand the importance of having a positive role model in a child’s life, and I am honored to be that for my Little.”
Conine was nominated by the staff of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Columbia for exemplifying a positive role model. His involvement, dedication and passion have supported the mission of the agency and helped change a child’s life.
