Lynn Summer was inducted into the Brookland-Cayce High School Education Hall of Fame, the Thursday evening of Feb. 10. The Brookland-Cayce High School Education Foundation sponsored the Hall of Fame Gala held at Seawell’s in Columbia.

Summer worked at Brookland-Cayce High School for more than two decades before her retirement in 2019.

“She is one of a kind and a BC legacy,” said Melanie Thornton,” a Brookland-Cayce graduate who was at the Gala, Thursday.

Summer was inducted into the Lexington Two Heroes and Heroines Society in 2019. Sen. Nikki Setzler presented a Senate Resolution to Summer in 2019 upon her retirement after 25 years teaching at Brookland-Cayce High School.

Summer, fondly known as the “BC Diva,” thrived on building trust and strong relationships with students. She loved to remind them, “You are unique and valuable, therefore, you must act unique and valuable.”

Summer was a health teacher and Teacher Cadet instructor at the time of her retirement, but she served in a number of other roles through the years at Brookland-Cayce High and elsewhere, among them substitute teacher, PE teacher, science lab technician, gymnastics and swim coach, and Brookland-Cayce cheerleading coach.
