At the August 6 meeting the Cayce City Council approved hospitality tax fund requests of $15,000 for the Cayce Fall Fest and $2,500 for the Children’s Cultural Fair at the Historic Museum.
The Fall Fest is a culturally diverse event that will include live music, food and drinks, art vendor and a kid’s area October 5 from 1 pm to 7 pm. The event will be held at Granby Gardens Park. Admission will be free.
The council also approved a bid award related to the Raw Water Intake Facility Standby Generator Project. The project, prompted by past flooding problems, was awarded to Triple A Utility and Construction at a cost of $532,000. City officials said 75 percent of the cost will be covered by government grants.
The council also approved a proclamation on the Play Ball Initiative, which encourages participation in baseball and softball events as a way to enhance community participation and encourage youth participation.
Mayor Elise Partin noted that Cayce, home of the Cayce West Columbia Dixie Youth Baseball, is very much involved in baseball events.
The city is sponsoring a special exhibit honoring the members of the 1964 Cayce Dixie Youth Little League World Series Championship team. It is coming to the Cayce Historical Museum beginning 3 pm, Aug. 16. Some of the former team members are expected to attend.
