Cayce City Manager Tracy Hegler has stepped down. After a council meeting, Hegler and council members signed a mutual agreement to tender her resignation.
Hegler has served as City Manager since 2018.
She worked in Richland County as the director for community planning and development before beginning her time in Cayce.
Cayce Mayor Pro Tem Tim James spoke highly of her experience and knowledge saying she ‘was the best I have ever worked with.’
Deputy City Manager James Crosland will temporarily become Manager from July 19 until the council finds a replacement.
Recently, Hegler was at odds with council members as they fought to balance a budget that she felt would fail to meet their fiscal needs. She suggested rate increases in Cayce’s water and sewer fees of 40% to cover basics and the council only allowed a 25% raise in rates. Hegler said that the council hadn’t kept up with rising cost changes and relied too heavily on COVID emergency funding monies which are now depleted.
