The City of Cayce announced Friday morning that Herbert Blake has stepped down as Chief of Police for the Cayce Police Department (CPD), effective immediately.
“My resignation [is] effective today’s date,” Blake stated in his resignation letter. “Thank you very much for the opportunity you afforded me.”
Blake’s tenure lasted just two months, following his appointment in September. Before joining CPD, Blake held roles as Chief Deputy of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office and served as Police Chief of the Henderson Police Department for 13 years.
While specific reasons for Blake’s resignation remain undisclosed, city officials described the decision as “mutual.”
“We have a senior Command Staff and a fully capable police force that will continue to serve our city and keep our citizens safe,” said Jim Crosland, Cayce’s Interim City Manager. “We have an immediate plan to resume our search for the right person to lead our Cayce Police Department.”
The city has assured residents that public safety remains a top priority as the search for a new police chief gets underway.
