Cayce Secures $2.1 Million for New Visitor Center at 12,000 Year History Park

CAYCE, SC – The City of Cayce has received a $2.1 million gift from the Boyd Foundation, a donation that will fully fund the construction of a Visitor Center at the city’s celebrated 12,000 Year History Park.

Cayce Mayor Elise Partin expressed gratitude for the Boyd Foundation’s contribution, noting the impact the Visitor Center will have on preserving the park’s historical significance. “This park already shows archaeological proof of habitation from 12,000 years ago,” Partin said. “To see this vision come to fruition—protecting this land and sharing the stories of everyone who walked it—is important for our city, county, state, and nation.”

The 12,000-Year History Park is a unique historical and archaeological site where visitors can explore South Carolina’s past, spanning thousands of years. From traces of Native American tribes to remnants of the Revolutionary and Civil War eras, the park brings history to life for modern explorers of all ages. It features visible Civil War earthworks, wildlife trails, and interpretive signs, blending natural beauty with historic discovery.

George Bailey, President of the Boyd Foundation Board, emphasized the park’s impact on both tourism and education. “This will provide outdoor recreational opportunities and serve as a wonderful tourism and educational resource for children and families across the Midlands,” he stated.

The city will now move forward with a competitive bidding process to finalize plans for the Visitor Center’s construction. Once complete, the center will offer educational resources and exhibits to enhance the park’s historical storytelling and visitor experience.

The Boyd Foundation, inspired by the late Darnall W. Boyd’s passion for community betterment, supports projects that improve outdoor spaces, advance education, and preserve history across the Midlands. The Foundation’s commitment to enriching the quality of life in the Columbia area aligns closely with Cayce’s vision for the park.
