This week’s Class 4A Individuals State Wrestling Tournament at the Anderson Civic Center will be crowded with local wrestlers from Airport and Brookland-Cayce High Schools.
In last week’s individuals qualifying round at Bluffton High School, Airport placed 10 wrestlers in the top-four out of a total 14 weight classes, and Brookland-Cayce added another to put 11 local top level contenders in the state individuals competition.
According to results from last weekend’s individuals qualifying round reported at scmat.com, it was:

113 lb. Carbin Nelson No. 2; Airport HS
120 lb. Scott Plantz No. 3; Airport HS
126 lb. Gavin Epps No. 3; Airport HS
132 lb. Alfonso Chavero No. 2; Airport HS
138 lb. Jackson Aaron No. 2; Airport HS
145 lb. Gavin Carrion No. 2; Airport HS
152 lb. Bryson Platt No. 3; Airport HS
160 lb. Jonah Del Priore No. 2; Brookland-Cayce HS
160 lb. Weston Campbell No. 4; Airport HS
285 lb. Jacob McNamar No. 4; Airport HS
These wrestlers are to compete in the Friday – Saturday Individuals State competition at the Anderson Civic Center, but it is not the Top-8 Individuals rankings reported recently at scmat.com. That rankings list includes additional wrestlers from Brookland-Cayce and Airport High Schools, and that will be covered in a future edition of this publication.
Friday’s tournament action begins at 10 am with 3A weigh-ins, with the 4A weigh-ins last at 2:30 pm. Quarterfinal competition follows each weigh-in session, with 4A wrestlers starting on the mats last at 3:30 pm.
Semifinals start at 6:30 pm for all classes, and then the activity picks up again at 8 am Saturday with weigh-ins for all classes followed by wrestling at 9 am – also all classes. And then the individuals championship round is set for 4:30 pm for all classes, each class on its own separate mats.
