East Point Academy was honored for its focus on “Rigorous Academics with a Global Focus” by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) with the 2021 Global Engagement Initiative Award. This prestigious national award recognizes outstanding world language learning experiences which challenge students and engage the community. The award recognition touted East Point Academy’s focus on international and global instruction summed up in its school motto “Merging Cultures, Inspiring Minds and Expanding Horizons.”
Language Immersion Coach Chao Sun commented on the honor saying “We are thrilled and grateful to be the recipient of this award, which is a perfect representation of our extraordinary dedication and exceptional performance, especially in the field of language immersion and globally-focused education.” All Math, Science and Related Arts at East Point Academy’s Elementary Campus are taught in Mandarin. Students at the Middle Campus choose between a Spanish track or Mandarin track. Through a robust curriculum that includes art integration, students are provided opportunities to learn about and experience other cultures.
While the formal award ceremony was virtual, Board Chair Alan Buck was excited to accept the award on behalf of the Board, teachers and staff, parents and students. In his remarks, he stated, “This award acknowledges the consistent hard work and dedication from our teachers and staff. Without their dedication and professionalism, this award would not be possible.”
