September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, a time when Lexington County Public Library (LCPL) joins the American Library Association (ALA) and other libraries nationwide to remind everyone a library card is an important tool on the path to achievement and lifelong learning.
This year’s theme is “find your voice at the library.”
This year, celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month by exploring the benefits of a library card beyond checking out books. Library card owners can stream movies and TV shows on their favorite device, visit South Carolina state parks, access DIY databases and more, all for free.
Libraries offer everything from early literacy programs to virtual homework assistance. At LCPL, there are a variety of resources and activities, including programs and events, databases like Mango Languages and Discus’ Explora, Pebble Go and Tutor.com for elementary, middle and high schoolers.
This year, Tony Award-winning performer, actress, singer-songwriter, and philanthropist Idina Menzel (Frozen, Wicked) and her sister, author and educator Cara Mentzel, serve as honorary chairs of Library Card Sign-Up Month.
To sign up for a library card, visit lexcolibrary.com/get-a-library-card, check the library’s Facebook or Instagram for the next pop-up library or visit any of LCPL’s branches and join in the celebration with giveaways, treats, prizes and more.
