At the June 13, 2023 meeting, the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Brian R. Morris as the district’s new human resources director. Morris currently serves as the assistant superintendent of human resources in Fallbrook Union Elementary School District in San Diego, California, as well as an adjunct professor at both Concordia University and California Baptist University.
With his career beginning in 1991, Morris is an experienced educator and human resources professional. From 1991 to 2007, Morris served as a teacher, dean of students and assistant principal at various high schools in California. In addition, he also served as an adjunct English professor at Southwestern Community College and Mount San Jacinto Community College, also in California.
In 2007, Morris was named principal of Paloma Valley High School in Perris, California, where he served until 2013, when he was promoted to director of special education in Perris Union High School District. In 2017, Morris became the director of certificated human resources at Santa Paula Unified School District in Ventura, California. In 2018, he moved to Poway Unified School District in San Diego, California, to be the district’s director of human resources. Morris was promoted to his current position in 2021.
Morris received a Bachelor of Arts in secondary English education from Miami of Ohio University in Oxford, Ohio. He received a Master of Arts in English from San Diego State University in San Diego, California. In addition, Morris received a Tier 1 and Tier 2 Preliminary Administrative Services Credential.
He is a member of the American Association of Superintendents and Administrators, the Association of California School Administrators, the San Diego County Office of Education Human Resources Advisory and Legislative Analysis committees, and the Fallbrook Community Forum Committee. He is also a district liaison with the University of La Verne Intern Teacher residency program and often presents to student teachers and future administrators at San Diego State, California State San Marcos and Concordia universities.
