The Lake Murray Seniors Bass Club (LMSBC) held its first monthly tournament for 2019, and it was a happy start to the new year. Ten of 15 teams limited out with 59 bass at 156.49 total lbs, caught on a chilly, but productive, January 17. Though temps were in the low 30’s initially, it warmed up enough that bass were hitting near shallow rocks especially in the persistently murky water.
The top 7 places were: Skip Parker and co-angler Jock Prestigiacomo in first with 17.04 lbs; second, Randy Fulmer and Mike Bailey with 15.75; third, Tim Whitman and Jim Edwards, 14.85; fourth, Earl Purcell and Willie Crocker, 14.05; fifth, Carl Horn and Leif Kargaard, 13.10; sixth, Larry Moss and Sam Drake, 13; and rounding out seventh place was Jim Cushman and Burl Fleming with 12.85 lbs. Parker and Matt Matte tied for Big Fish at 5.8 lbs.
The LMSBC also held its annual awards banquet (where it meets monthly at Macedonia Lutheran Church on the Lake) with a meal catered by Matthews BBQ out of Saluda. As 67 fishermen and their spouses watched, Skip Parker and Joe Dowdell were presented embroidered championship jackets, plaques and checks for placing first in the angler and co-angler categories for the 2018 season. The next top four finishers were also given checks. The evening also offered 75 door prizes worth almost $3000 from the following sponsors:
Palmetto State Armory, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Purple Martin Pottery, Newberry Opera House, Aquarius Spa, Palmetto Fine Arts, Spirit of Lake Murray, Stokes Traynor Chevrolet, Bolin Ace Hardware, Newberry Spa and Nails, Fusion Japanese and Thai Restaurant, Advance Auto Chapin and Newberry, Wilson Marine, Tractor Supply, Lowes Newberry, Hamm’s Hardware, BI-LO, Hawg Heaven, Publix, Sonic, Twin City Bait and Tackle, Chinaberry Heaven, Karl Crapp’s Tire Service, Mainstreet Hair Salon, Ronnie’s Restaurant, Hardee’s, David Bedenbaugh, Inc., Muddy Bay Marine, Roger Isaac, Al Odom (Fishers of Men), and Tim Whitman.
