Post 79 looking for wins

By Thomas Grant Jr.

With two weeks left in the regular season, West Columbia Post 79 finds itself on the outside of the American Legion League III standings.

Post 79 looked to snap a 4-game losing streak Tuesday at home against Lexington Post 7. In its last game, West Columbia fell 8-1 to Chapin/Newberry Post 193/24.

Chapin/Newberry jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Samonsky of Dutch Fork and 2-run double by Paul Taylor.

RBI singles by Taylor and Lindler extended the lead to 5-0 in the second inning. Chapin/Newberry added a run in the third off an error and Lindler’s two-run double in the sixth inning made it 8-0.

Jace Martin picked up the victory after striking out five batters and allowing just four hits in six shutout innings. West Columbia’s lone run came in the top of the seventh on an RBI sacrifice fly by Corbin Wright of Airport.

Rainfall pushed back this past Monday’s rematch at Brookland-Cayce High School to 6:30 pm
