Student brings loaded gun to Airport High

A loaded gun was found in the backpack of an Airport High School student August 22.

Acting on a request from law enforcement regarding a weekend off-campus incident, administrators and the school’s SROs met a student as he arrived by bus before the start of classes to talk with him.

The student was taken immediately to an office, and a subsequent search of the student’s backpack uncovered a loaded gun and ammunition.

The student was taken into law enforcement custody.

The student will face district discipline in accordance with board policy and state law.

Out of an abundance of caution, extra administrators and law enforcement officers were at Airport High School.

Lexington Two does not tolerate weapons on campus or any potential threat to the safety of students or employees. They ask parents and guardians to remind their students to immediately report to an administrator, teacher, SRO, or other district employee any alleged threats, suspicious activities and/or discussions, as well as anything that just doesn’t seem right. The district also has a tip line to make reports anonymously by text, call, or email: 803-363-5172 or [email protected].
