City Council in Cayce passed a first reading to limit golf carts on public roads inside the municipality. The carts would be limited to 35mph and cannot be on the streets from midnight until 6am.
Council stressed that the rulings was not to discourage the use of golf carts but to prevent serious injuries and mishaps from occurring.
Residents are mixed on the proposed ordinance but mostly agree that something needs to be done. “I’ve seen lots of carts in my neighborhood and not just adults driving them,” said a Cayce resident.
The next reading will be held on Thursday, June 11 in a special called council meeting. If passed the ordinance becomes law immediately.
