GCA girls place 2nd at state swimming championships

The Gray Collegiate Academy swimming team had a strong showing at the S.C. High School League championships held at South Carolina University’s Natatorium.

The Lady Eagles placed second behind Bishop England in the Class 4A team standings. They took first place in the 200-yard intermediate relay and 400 free relay and second in the 200-freestyle relay.

Peighton Johnson won gold in the 200 freestyle and tied for first place in the 100 freestyle. K.P. Coker won the 200 individual medley and third place in the 100 freestyle.

Other high finishers were Madison Mitton (2nd place – 50 freestyle), Sabey Coker (2nd place – 100 butterfly; 3rd place – 100 breaststroke) and Whitney Moody (2nd  place – 100 backstroke).

The Gray Collegiate boys finished fourth in Class 4A. Winners were Joe Sorrell (1st place – 100 freestyle; 2nd place – 50 freestyle), Aaron Willis (1st place – 100 backstroke; 2nd place – 100 butterfly) and the 200-freestyle relay team.

In Class 5A Division I, the River Bluff girls placed sixth. Maecy Wells won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke and was on the winning 200 intermediate relay.
