Gray Collegiate, BC win region openers

Gray Collegiate Academy opened Region 4-4A play last week with a 38-6 road win over ranked Midland Valley.

Gilbert transfer Trevon Williamson had his best game as a War Eagle. He had 41 carries for 242 yards and scored two touchdowns along with Nate Dixon

Xavier Wright played at quarterback in place of Tyler Waller. He completed 6-10 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown to Corey Gleaton.

Up next is a first-place showdown in West Columbia against third-ranked North Augusta. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 56-14 win over Gilbert in which the backfield duo of senior Michael Doe and junior Jayden Hatcher each rushed for over 100 yards and combined for three touchdowns.

Brookland-Cayce also has a share of first place in the region. The Bearcats defeated South Aiken 35-14 on the road to earn the first win under new head coach Louis Clyburn.

Quarterback Andrew Frick threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns to three different receivers. Tyree Johnson had five receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown and returned an interception 85 yards for a score.

On defense, linebacker Evan Simmons had a team-high 13 tackles for Brookland-Cayce (1-3, 1-0).

The Thoroughbreds face another Lexington School District Two team this week in Airport. The Eagles (0-4) are coming off a bye looking to snap a 10-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Crusaders win second straight

B.J. Suits completed 3-5 passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns as Northside Christian Academy defeated Spartanburg Christian Academy 32-14.

Hunter Peeler accounted for both touchdown receptions. Gracen Wilson rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown.

Northside Christian Academy (2-3, 0-1) travels to Florence to face Trinity Collegiate School.
