Jesus Every Day: Often unnoticed

Dr. Jed N. Snyder

Historically many people and events appear as minor blips. These often-unnoticed people sometimes fulfill a vital role. Many may not recognize a couple in the New Testament named Zechariah and Elizabeth. They were the parents of John, the forerunner who introduced Jesus Christ. We read of them in the Gospel of Luke chapter one and then they disappear. As elderly and barren the promise given to them by the angel Gabriel was hard to believe. They did conceive, however, and John the Baptist was born. God had to discipline Zechariah for his initial lack of faith. I hope we do not lack faith and therefore come under God’s discipline.

In this brief blip we are reminded of five important life issues. God should be worshipped reverently. Women are to be respected. People should handle finances carefully. We have responsibility to life justly in our community. God’s law is to be obeyed.

While studying at a university, I received the attention of a special elderly lady. She was called a prayer-mom. She prayed daily for me and several other students. She goes down in history as an unnoticed lady. The lives that her students have lived are in a rather large way benefited by her unnoticed prayer.

If you feel unnoticed please remember that you are in good company. It is likely that the greatest blessings God will hand out in heaven will be given to these unnoticed in this world.

We have one young man who asks us to pray for him to find good deeds that he can do for others. Most of these go unnoticed excepting to the Lord. He is a model to many of us.

May we find great happiness in living unnoticed excepting to our Lord Jesus Christ.
