Mat Rumble Unleashed: Public School Wrestling Team Tournaments Kick Off

The final weekend of the South Carolina High School League regular season for wrestling saw region titles decided and several female athletes qualifying for the state tournament.

River Bluff defeated Lexington (42-25) and White Knoll (49-18) to claim the Region 4-5A title. It will enjoy homecourt advantage throughout the Class 5A Lower State tournament which starts Saturday with the first two rounds.

The Gators will open against Wando with the winner of Lexington against the second-place team out of Region 7-5A. Chapin will open the playoffs Saturday against the third-place team out of Region 2-5A at Hillcrest High School.

Airport saw four champions crowned at the Region 4-4A individual championships at South Aiken High School. The qualifiers were Trey Neal (157 lbs.), Logan Crandell (150 lbs.), Bryant Cherry (215 lbs.) and Shane Hanna (190 lbs.).
Givyn Dyler (147 lbs.) and Alyssa Ceacal (237 lbs.) of Airport both placed first in the Upper State tournament at Boiling Springs High School.

Ashley Kelly (102 lbs.) and Rory Travis (147 lbs.) of Gilbert both finished second and Hayden Moore (127 lbs.) of Brookland-Cayce and the Lady Indians’ Arianna Markatine (157 lbs.) were third in the Lower State tournament at South Florence High School.
