Lexington School District Two will have brand new athletics directors and head football coaches next fall.
Shane Fidler announced Friday he will resign from both positions at Airport High School at the end of the school year. He’s completing his second year at the West Columbia school.
“My wife has become a principal and it is now difficult for our family with a young child to handle all of the roles assigned to me, so it is in the best interest of our Airport Football players that I step aside,” Fidler said in a statement. “I am confident that Principal Matt Schilit, Superintendent Dr. Brenda Hafner and Deputy Superintendent Matt Warren will find an outstanding candidate to lead these young men.”
Fidler arrived at Airport from Ashley Ridge High School. He posted a 7-15 record with two playoff appearances with the Eagles and also led the way in making athletic facility improvements.
This past season was challenging as schedule changes due to Hurricane Helene forced Airport to play as many as five games in three weeks. The Eagles finished with a 2-9 record.
“Airport Football and Athletics are in a great place and I am excited to watch them excel to the next level,” Fidler said. “I thank everyone for my time here and am appreciative of the support we received while being Airport Eagles.”
The school will now seek its third head coach in four seasons. Meanwhile, fellow District Two school Brookland-Cayce in February hired Louis Clyburn as head football coach and athletics director.
