Top-ranked Gray Collegiate Academy has continued its dominant play in the post-season.
The first two games of the Class 4A playoffs have seen the War Eagles win by an average of 38 points. This is also the average number of points they have allowed in the victories over South Florence and Midland Valley.
Gray Collegiate looked on extend its 20-game winning streak Tuesday and book a return to the Florence Civic Center for the Lower State finals. Standing in the way at the “Flight Deck” is another Region 5-4A foe in North Augusta.
The War Eagles swept the regular season series with the Yellow Jackets. They also remember last year’s 65-56 overtime loss in the third round at North Augusta.
Leading by a point with 1.9 seconds left, All-State forward Levi Ball was fouled as he and the Yellow Jackets’ Jordan Rouse struggled over the basketball near the home team student section. This led to a verbal confrontation with fans and Gray Collegiate Academy players, resulting in a technical foul.
After Ball made 1-2 free throws, DaRon Dunbar made both technical foul shots to force overtime. North Augusta outscored Gray Collegiate Academy 12-2 in the extra point for the win.
Season ends for Lady War Eagles
The Gray Collegiate Academy girls saw their season end once again at the hands of North Augusta.
The Lady War Eagles fell 62-28 to the Lady Yellow Jackets. It was the third loss this season and sixth straight dating back to last season.
