West Columbia opens series with Lexington

With two straight wins, West Columbia Post 79 has moved into a third-place tie in League II with Lexington Post 7 as the S.C. American Legion regular season winds down.

On Monday, the two teams began a 3-game series at Brookland-Cayce High School.

Led by a 3-hit, 7-strikeout complete game performance from pitcher Chance Culley, West Columbia came away with a 3-0 victory.

Culley accounted for an RBI single for Post 79. It also managed just three hits against Lexington pitchers Grant Royer and Brooks Pelosco, who combined for 10 strikeouts.

The win improved West Columbia to 4-6 overall, 2-4 in League II. It picked up its first league victory June 16 in a 9-7 win over Sumter Post 15.

Culley went 4-4 with 3 RBI, including a 2-run homer and Chase Culley was 3-4 with an RBI.

West Columbia was losing 4-2 to Sumter when play was stopped in the Top 5th due to weather. The game will be resumed at a later date.
