West Columbia Post 79 was seeking its first win in American Legion League II play as of Tuesday against Sumter Post 15 at Brookland-Cayce High School.
It opened with a 3-game sweep at the hands of defending league champion Richland Post 215. After getting shut out 5-0 in the opener, West Columbia had a 6-3 lead entering the Top 6th in Game Two.
Chance Cully was 4-4 with two RBI and Chase Starkey, Justin Sightler, Blake Brown and Landen Fowler all went 3-4 for West Columbia. Richland rallied with nine unanswered runs, including six in the Top 7th for the 12-6 win.
Post 215 completed the sweep after scoring two runs in the Top 8th for a 3-1 victory.
This past Monday provided another late heartbreaker for West Columbia. It took a 3-2 lead in the Top 7th against Sumter Post 15 on a 2-run triple by Chance Culley.
Post 15 answered by loading the bases in the Bottom 9th and getting back-to-back RBI singles for the 4-3 win. The loss dropped West Columbia to 2-6 overall, 0-4 in League II.
