It’s the final week of the South Carolina American Legion baseball regular season.
With three games this week, West Columbia Post 79 can improve its chances of placing second in the League II standings. Prior to Tuesday’s game against first-place Sumter Post 15 at Pelion High School, it stood in third place with a 4-5 record.
On Wednesday, West Columbia faced second place Richland Post 215 at A.C. Flora High School. Post 79 trailed Post 215 by one game.
West Columbia closes out the regular season at Lexington High School against Post 7. Victories in all three games could put Post 79 in position to host a first-round playoff series.
Prior to the Fourth of July break, West Columbia had its 4-game winning streak snapped by Sumter 7-2. Airport’s Justin Sightler accounted for two of the four hits West Columbia managed in defeat.
