The past 90 years of the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas has featured generational talent among its participants.
Wide receiver Royce Williamson is the latest second generation player who will compete for the South Carolina Sandlappers. The Gray Collegiate Academy senior and son of former Silver Bluff, University of South Carolina and NFL wide receiver Troy Williamson was the lone Cayce/West Columbia player selected to the team.
This year’s Shrine Bowl will take place noon Dec. 19 at Spartanburg High School.
In six games, Williamson has 17 receptions for 238 yards and three touchdowns. He accounted for the War Eagles’ lone score in the 42-7 loss to top-ranked Dutch Fork.
Gray Collegiate Academy (2-4) opens Region 5-5A play Friday against Spring Valley (0-6). The winless Vikings are seeking their first win this season over a Lexington County team in five matchups.
Crusaders now 6-0
The best start in school history continued Friday for Northside Christian Academy.
Northside Christian Academy held off Trinity Christian 21-13 last Friday to improve to 6-0 on the season. Quarterback B.J. Suits had three touchdowns, two passing to Tucker McGinty.
For the season, Suits has rushed for 792 yards and 17 touchdowns and completed 42-65 passes for 685 yards and seven scores.
Gators win 4th straight
The Gators scored 38 unanswered points after falling behind early to the Falcons.
Quarterback Davis Taylor threw two touchdowns and Bubba Alexander scored off a fake punt to lead River Bluff to a 38-7 win over A.C. Flora.
Brayden Moore also threw for a touchdown for the Gators (5-1).
Over in Cayce, Brookland-Cayce fell to undefeated Mid-Carolina 36-14. Quarterback Andrew Frick threw for 195 yards and a touchdown and running back Avery King had 102 yards and a score.
Archrival Airport was victorious by a near-exact score of 37-14 over Columbia to improve to 2-3 on the season. Both the Eagles and Bearcats’ game are available on the Palmetto State Sports Network on www.youtube.com.
