Five Lexington County teams appear in SCBCA preseason polls
By Thomas Grant Jr.
It was a historic baseball season last spring for Airport High School.
The Eagles completed an undefeated playoff run in Class 4A, capturing the program’s first-ever state championship. With the regular season still nearly a month away, Airport begins 2026 perched atop the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association (SCBCA) Class 4A preseason poll.
Airport is one of five Lexington County teams ranked in the preseason polls. River Bluff leads that group at No. 6 in Class 5A Division I, while Lexington, Dutch Fork, and Gilbert also earned preseason recognition.
Fans will get an early look at several ranked teams during two preseason tournaments hosted in Lexington County. The Opterra Solutions Invitational, co-hosted by Lexington and River Bluff high schools, and the Sandlapper Shootout at Gilbert High School will feature multiple teams from the SCBCA rankings.
