Airport softball alive in playoffs

The 2024 spring sports season has ended for most Airport and Brookland-Cayce high school teams.

Among the lone team still standing is the Lady Eagles’ softball team. Wins over Greenville (8-3) and Lancaster (1-0) has Airport a win away Tuesday at over Catawba Ridge away from reaching the Class 4 A Upper State final on Thursday.

The Brookland-Cayce softball team went 0-2 in the Class 3A playoffs.

SOCCER

On April 30, the Lady Eagles fell 1-0 to Easley in the opening round of the Class 4 A playoffs. The same day saw the Lady Bearcats defeat Crestwood 4-0 to reach the second round of the Class 3A playoffs.

The Brookland-Cayce girls’ season ended two nights later in an 8-0 loss to Waccamaw.

The Brookland-Cayce boys also reached the second round, beating Lake City 8-0 in round one before falling 3-0 to Phillip Simmons.

BASEBALL

After going unbeaten to win the Region 4-4A title, the postseason run for the Eagles did not go as hoped.

Airport used a 5-run rally in the 6th inning to win its playoff opener over Westside 6-2. It then rallied two nights later to force extra innings with Indian Land before losing 6-5 in eight innings and then gave up 3 runs to Greer at home before losing 4-2 to end the season with a 20-9 record.

The Bearcats opened the Class 3A playoffs with a 7-2 win over Marlboro County. Maddox Medeiros went 2-2 with 3 RBI and Thomas Donadio drove in two runs for Brookland-Cayce.
