The Brookland-Cayce High School Education Foundation will host the 24th annual Brookland-Cayce High School Educator Hall of Fame and Alumni Wall of Honor Gala today, Thursday, February 5.
This foundation will recognize this year’s inductees: Elizabeth Shealy, Educator Hall of Fame, and Wade Sellers, Alumni Wall of Honor.
Shealy served as head of the English Department at Brookland-Cayce High School for 10 years and was a sponsor to the Class of 1994. She taught at Fulmer Middle School as well, where she also served as English Department chair and was sponsor of the literary magazine. As a high school student, she worked on the yearbook (editor her senior year) and was Student Body and Senior Class President, garnering the Senior Superlatives of Miss Senior and Friendliest. Shealy went on to attend Newberry College, where she earned an English degree and served on the yearbook staff and as a member of the May Court. Among her community involvement, she served as a Boy Scout Den Mother and was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, SC Education Association, and Brookland-Cayce High School Education Foundation. A lifelong member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, she served in many roles, including as a church council member at two churches, Sunday School and Bible School teacher, member of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and a Call Committee, and was a choir and handbell choir participant, among other activities.
Mr. Sellers graduated from Brookland-Cayce High School in 1959. He went on to attend Clemson University, where he earned a degree in civil engineering. His professional work has left a lasting mark throughout the community, with projects and contributions visible across Cayce, West Columbia, and Columbia. He also proudly served as a member of the Army National Guard. A strong advocate for education, Mr. Sellers played a key role in establishing the Tri-County Technical College Bridge Program at Clemson University. He has remained deeply committed to student advancement, consistently supporting continuing education through the Brookland-Cayce High School Foundation and Clemson University. His selfless service, generosity, and dedication to education have positively shaped the lives of countless students and community members—not only in the Cayce West Columbia area, but throughout the state.
The event will be held at the Lexington Two Performing Arts Center.
