Former Brookland-Cayce outfielder Skylar King is now a draftee in Major League Baseball.
The University of West Virginia junior was selected in the 15th round of the 2025 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox.
As a rising senior, King could sign with the Red Sox or return for his senior year with the Mountaineers.
In three seasons with West Virginia, King appeared in 134 games, hitting .274 with eight home runs and 61 RBI while adding 79 runs and 22 stolen bases. A standout defensive center fielder, King also had five outfield assists with the Mountaineers while making highlight-reel catches.
After a quiet freshman season, King hit .258 with five homers and 26 RBI and swiped nine bases. He maintained close to a .300 average before a late-season slump dropped it to .291.
King collected three homers and 32 RBI in addition to nine doubles, two triples, and 13 stolen bases. West Virginia reached the NCAA Super Regional, where it lost to eventual national champion LSU.
Other former Lexington County players drafted were University of South Carolina pitcher Matthew Becker of Chapin (19th round – Minnesota Twins) and outfielder Nathan Hall of Lexington (fifth round – Arizona Diamondbacks).
