Both Brookland-Cayce teams earned trophies last Friday at home.
The two teams posted victories over Gilbert in the WACH 57 High School Hoops Game of the Week.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Bearcats held on for a 46-45 win. It was their second straight one-point Region 4-4A win and avenged a 54-17 loss on Jan. 13.
A free throw by Kadin Enoch with 1:23 left provided the margin of victory. Gilbert got within a point on a 3-pointer by Kirston Fritton, but Brookland-Cayce held off three scoring opportunities for the victory.
“When you lose by (34) and having a season like we’re having out here, it’s just easy to quit,” head coach Terrance Gibson said. “These girls have no quit in them. I’m so proud of them because they’re going to keep fighting every day.
Kamoryn Booker scored 12 points on four, 3-pointers to earn Player of the Game honors.

The boys’ game was also Bearcats as it rolled to a 67-19 win. Brookland-Cayce led 26-4 at the end of the first quarter and were up as many as 52 points in the fourth quarter.
Isaiah Oree was named Player of the Game with 15 points.
The Bearcats stood in third place heading into Tuesday’s road matchup with North Augusta. They close out the regular season Thursday at home against archrival Airport.
GCA boys win region
Region and state titles have become synonymous with head coach Dion Bethea during his Gray Collegiate Academy tenure.
The former trend continued in his first season back at the West Columbia school. Last Friday’s 78-35 win over South Aiken clinched the Region 4-4A title.
With two wins over second place North Augusta, the top-ranked War Eagles own the tiebreaker if they finished tied at the end of the season.
The Gray Collegiate Academy girls also won last Friday over South Aiken. With the 62-15 win, the Lady War Eagles clinched second place in the region behind defending Class 4A champion North Augusta.
Gray Collegiate closes out the regular season with games against Aiken and Gilbert.
