Brookland-Cayce was seeking its first state title since 1966.
It had an opportunity to reach the Class 3A final by winning the Lower State title at home.
They faced a Camden team that has reached the state title game twice in the past five years and 17 times overall.
The championship experience and play of senior quarterback Grayson White proved too much for the Bearcats to overcome in the 46-30 loss.
Brookland-Cayce (11-3) took an early 7-0 lead on a touchdown run by DeShaun Washington. The Bulldogs answered by scoring on their first four possessions to go up 30-14.
A Will Young touchdown run made it 30-22 at halftime. He rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns.
Despite forcing two turnovers in the third quarter, Brookland-Cayce fell behind 38-22 on one of Averee Hickman’s two touchdowns.
Washington scored a touchdown to bring the Bearcats to within 38-30, but White answered with a rushing touchdown of his own to close out the win.
Camden will once again face Daniel in the final Saturday at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium on Willie Jeffries Field.
“Of course, we are disappointed because we felt like we had a chance,” Charpia said. “But Camden is a good team, well-coached and you can’t take anything away from them.
