CAYCE, S.C. — Cayce City Council has appointed the Honorable James Smith as the new City Attorney. With more than three decades of legal experience, Smith brings a distinguished record of public service, governmental expertise, and leadership to the role.
Smith has extensive experience handling the full range of civil, business, real estate, land use, construction, and governmental matters essential to municipal legal work. His background includes 22 years in the South Carolina House of Representatives, where he served in senior leadership on the Judiciary Committee, helping shape and interpret laws that affect cities and towns across the state.
In addition to his legislative experience, Smith brings nearly 30 years of service in the South Carolina Army National Guard, including work as a JAG officer and Infantry Lieutenant Colonel.
“Just as James Smith has served our country and our state with honor, our city will now benefit from his legal expertise, integrity, and focus on helping move Cayce forward,” said Mayor Elise Partin.
Smith expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying, “I’m deeply grateful for the confidence and support of the Cayce City Council. I look forward to working closely with City Manager Mike Conley, Mayor Elise Partin, and Council in service to our citizens and in support of the continued progress of the City of Cayce.”
