For the third time in four years, Airport High School will have a different head football coach and athletics director.

On Monday, Chris Napier was approved for hiring by the Lexington School District Two Board of Trustees.

“I am truly honored and humbled to be selected as athletic director and head football coach at Airport High School,” Napier said.  “I look forward to building on the rich traditions of Eagles athletics and working with our student-athletes, staff, and community.”

He was recommended by Superintendent Brenda Hafner to replace Shane Fidler, who resigned after two seasons to become the athletics director at White Knoll High School.

Prior to Fidler’s arrival, he replaced longtime head coach Kirk Burnett. Fidler led the Eagles to two straight playoff appearances.

An assistant principal and offensive analyst this past year at Newberry High School, Napier has 15 years of coaching experience on the high school and collegiate level. He was an offensive assistant at Columbia High School and served at various coaching positions at nine different high schools in West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, North Carolina, and Georgia.

A graduate of Marshall University, Napier also served as a team lead and educational associate in the Office of Special Education Services at the S.C. Department of Education. In addition, he was a resource coordinator and transition resource coordinator with Community Access Inc./West Virginia Department of Education and an elementary school special education teacher and high school health teacher. He started his career in education as a classroom aide in August 2008.

“I am excited to welcome Coach Napier and his family to Airport High. He brings strong administrative and extensive coaching experience to our school,” Principal Matt Schilit said. “I look forward to supporting him in the years ahead and can’t wait for him to meet our students.”
