Columbia, SC – The Koger Center for the Arts invites the community to two free performances of Squonk’s brand new show, “Brouhaha,” on May 15 and 16, 2024. Taking place at 6 p.m. on the Koger Center Plaza Stage, these performances offer an immersive outdoor spectacle filled with lively music, captivating imagery, and exciting audience participation. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the Squonk performers and explore the magic behind the scenes.
“Brouhaha” marks Squonk’s return to the Koger Center following their last performance in September 2022 with “Hand to Hand.” This event is part of the Koger Center Presents “Live Outside” series, featuring free outdoor performances that introduce audiences to new music and events at the Koger Center. The Plaza Stage setting is informal and family-friendly, providing ample space for picnics and blankets on the Koger lawn.
The Squonk company describes “Brouhaha” as a riotous romp featuring the Squonkcordion, an enormous musical instrument that the audience gets to play. This visual extravaganza promises to immerse attendees in the joy of community, the power of live music, and the excitement of Squonk’s unique performance style.
Additionally, both performances coincide with two art receptions inside the Koger Center. On May 15, Jennifer “J.Renee” Johnson will host a closing ceremony for her art exhibit, “The Circus,” starting at 4:30 p.m. On May 16, the Koger Center and Jasper Project will host Third Thursday Art Night to kick off the opening of a new exhibit in The Nook, featuring Malik Greene, starting at 5:30 p.m.
