Fort Jackson holds annual Run for the Fallen

Fort Jackson will host its annual 5K run/walk honoring fallen soldiers and the survivors of soldiers at 8 a.m. Sept. 14, at Hilton Field.

This is an annual event to help bring awareness to fallen soldiers and their sacrifices.  This event builds support for the families of those killed in combat, and aids the healing process for those Americans whose lives have been affected by the war.

Fort Jackson is providing more than 500 service members to represent S.C. fallen soldiers. The runners will have the name of a fallen soldier who died while on active duty since Sept. 11, 2001.

The 5K Run/Walk is open and free to the public. All runners will need to sign a waiver before the run at the registration table so plan to be on site at 7 a.m. As a reminder, please do not bring pets-exceptions are allowed for military/police working dogs and registered service dogs.

For more information about registration, call 803-751-3096

Last year, roughly 1,200 soldiers, family members and civilians participated in this run.
