Both Gray Collegiate Academy and River Bluff came away with its share of medals this past weekend in the pool.
The two schools competed at the S.C. High School League state swimming meet held Oct. 1-3 at the University of South Carolina.
Both the Gray Collegiate girls and boys’ teams had the highest finish among Midlands schools.
The Lady War Eagles placed second in Class 4A behind Bishop England.

Madison Mitton won the 100 breaststroke and tied for third with teammate Peighton Johnson in the 100 freestyle. Johnson was also third in the 200 freestyle and Whitney Moody was second in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
Sabey Coker placed second in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. In the relay events, Gray Collegiate won the 200 individual medley, was second in the 200 freestyle and third in 400 freestyle relay.
The 469 points Gray Collegiate scored was second only to the Lady Bishops with 590.

The War Eagles finished third in the Class 4A boys’ division. Aaron Willis came away with two gold medals in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke.
Gray’s Hosea Howard was second in the 100 breaststroke and the relay teams had two second-place finishes in the 200 individual medley and 200 freestyle relays.
River Bluff

In Class 5A Division I, Anna Ray won the 100 backstroke and the Lady Gators finished first in the 200 individual medley relay.
They ended up with a fifth-place overall finish, while the boys were 12th.
