Huge crowds at Kinetic Derby

The Fourth Annual Kinetic Derby Day was held on Saturday, April 22 on Meeting and State streets in West Columbia boasting their largest crowds yet for this event.

West Columbia’s Director of Public Relations, Anna Huffman, commented that the event brought people from Charlotte, Augusta, Florence and all over the Midlands. One couple were from a California.

Fifty racers competed for the coveted fastest car award in different age group categories beginning with 8-12 year olds up to adult. There was plenty to do at the event including a giant slide, a kinetic sculpture parade along with a kid’s zone with chalk artists. There was an obstacle course for the derby cars which included a COVID grits pile, a Jell-) explosion, a foam surprise and a water works.

West Columbia Mayor Ten Miles came wearing an MC Hammer themed outfit and congratulated all the winners handing out awards at Savage Craft Ale Works Stage after the events.

Organizers are already planning next year’s Fifth Annual Kinetic Derby Day.
