2 Corinthians 6:2
When being honest with ourselves, we know that today is the only day that we are sure to be living. See how the present is described in this New Testament passage.
For he says, “In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2
Some rather foolish people seem to live with the idea that they can sin now and just before they die, they can repent and be okay before God. This kind of playing games with God does not end well. Death can come in an instant. The possibilities of a car accident, falling off a ladder, choking on food and similar unpredictable events should make us stay prepared to meet our God. If we know Jesus Christ personally, having repented of our sin and trusted His death in our place, then we are okay. If we live like this, then our goal is to do the things He desires, not to live as close to the edge of destruction as possible.
So, is there unsolved bitterness between you and someone? Have you exaggerated in any statement so that you look better than you actually are? Maybe now is the time to make a phone call to straighten things out. Maybe an email will do, but usually face to face is best whenever that is possible. Let’s hope that none of us has gossiped or “jumped” to unwarranted conclusions, as seems popular in the media these days.
Perhaps we can live happily while keeping short accounts with all people and especially with our Lord Jesus Christ. Remember, please, “Behold, now is the favorable time.”
