Kemper Amick named Head Coach at American Leadership Academy

By Thomas Grant Jr.

After one season as defensive coordinator, Kemper Amick will now take the reins as American Leadership Academy head football coach.

The school announced Amick’s promotion to the position. He replaced Robin Bacon who resigned after leading the program in its inaugural season.

The Patriots were 0-9 in Region 4-4A. Bacon plans to finish out the school years and move to Greenville with his family.

We are thrilled to promote Coach Amick to lead the ALA Lexington football program,” ALA athletics director Ray Canady said. “His experience and passion for football make him the perfect fit to lead our program.”

Amick had a successful tenure at Columbia High School. He led the Capitals to 113 victories, two region titles and four state semifinal appearances. In 2022, Amick served as defensive coordinator at Brookland-Cayce under former head coach Reed Charpia.

“I knew from the first ever ALA Lexington football practice that this is home for me,” Amick said. “The experience of building a program from the ground up is incredibly rewarding. The opportunity to follow Coach Bacon, who leaves the program in tremendous shape, makes this transition a lot easier for us all.”

This marks the fourth head football coaching change this school year in the Lake Murray area. The others were Lexington (Stewart Young), River Bluff (Perry Parks) and Saluda (Greg Woerner).
