Looking into 2024

By Congressman Joe Wilson

February 8, 2024

Under the policies of Biden and Democrats, Americans have suffered. As a result, our country has experienced unprecedented adversity. Families continue to struggle with crippling inflation of consumer products and services, including inflation reaching a 40-year high; the ongoing invasion of illegal aliens at our Southern Border is allowing terrorists, drug smugglers, and human traffickers to enter our country; energy independence has been replaced by foreign energy dependance, increasing the price of gasoline; and our children are being affected by the undermining of parental rights in schools.

I am grateful to have begun 2024 by touring the Second District – with stops in North Augusta, Aiken, Midlands, and Barnwell – promoting my legislative focus areas looking forward, while also reviewing key accomplishments of the House Republican majority in 2023.

Among those successes my Republican colleagues and I achieved last year, on behalf of American families, include:

Passing the Fiscal Responsibility Act, the largest deficit reduction package in American history.

Passing the Secure the Border Act to reinforce border security.

Passing the Parents’ Bill of Rights Act to ensure a parent’s right to make decisions about their child’s education.

Passing the Lower Energy Costs Act to unleash American energy, lowering prices and strengthen our national security.

Defunding Biden’s army of 87,000 new IRS agents.

Passing into law the National Defense Authorization Act, which represents the commitment of Congress to our service members, their families, and our national security, and contains funding authorizations for the missions of the Savannah River Site, including for the Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility and modernization of our nuclear triad.

As we enter the new year, the following is just a sampling of specific issues and legislation in my 2024 Agenda that I will continue to fight for:

Promote fiscal responsibility by reducing government spending and cutting frivolous programs.

Boost domestic manufacturing to help small and family-owned businesses grow and create jobs.

Advocate for current and future missions at the Savanah River Site.

Protect TRICARE benefits and improve the quality of life for military families and retirees.

Deter military threats from war criminal Putin, the Chinese Communist Party, the Iranian regime, Hamas, and other aggressors.

Another issue of immediate focus is addressing the continued insecurity at the border, where we are being invaded by illegals and terrorists.

Just a few weeks ago, I was grateful to join my Republican colleagues and Speaker Mike Johnson in visiting the Southern Border at Eagle Pass, Texas. What I witnessed and heard there was madness.

Every month Border Patrol agents, county sheriffs, and Public Safety personnel are overwhelmed with unaccompanied children and tens of thousands of aliens crossing illegally. Since Biden took office in January 2021, there have been over seven million illegal crossings at the Southern Border, including more than 300 persons on the terrorist watchlist, that we know of, and nearly two million illegal aliens who were not caught.

Among the dangers to American families, Biden’s continued failure to secure the border allows for imminent terrorist attacks anywhere in the country, as warned by the FBI.

The Republican-led House passed the Secure the Border Act to stop destabilization. Now, Senate Democrats need to work with us to address this critical issue. We must maintain the border for the security of our nation and citizens.

Much remains to be done, not only at the border, and I am committed to the people of South Carolina’s Second District and will continue to work hard to keep us all safe, promote jobs, and help make our lives and communities stronger.
