Northside Christian claims first win

Northside Christian Academy picked up its first win of the season last Friday.

The Crusaders defeated Andrew Jackson Academy 30-20 behind three touchdowns from quarterback B.J. Suits. He scored from three yards and had two from one yard in finishing with 146 rushing yards.

Suits was also 3-4 passing for 54 yards. John Rogers also rushed for a touchdown for Northside Christian Academy.

While the Crusaders broke into the win column, both Airport and Brookland-Cayce are still seeking their first victories.

The Eagles were routed 65-7 by Westwood for their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. Meanwhile, the Bearcats gave up a touchdown and 2-point conversion with three minutes left in a 36-29 loss to May River.

Quarterback Andrew Frick completed 15-22 passes for 327 yards and four touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Tyree Johnson accounted for eight receptions for 181 yards and two touchdowns and Makhi Pringle caught a 75-yard touchdown pass.

On defense, linebacker Evan Simmons had 24 tackles followed by Curtis Bovain with 19.

War Eagles fall to Silver Foxes

Gray Collegiate played host to 3-time defending Class 5A Division I champion Dutch Fork last Friday.

In the first 72 seconds of the game, quarterback Tyler Waller found C.J. Gleaton for a 59-yard touchdown to put the War Eagles up 7-0. After the Silver Foxes answered with a touchdown run and punt return for a touchdown, Waller and Gleaton connected again for a 34-yard score to tie the game at 14-14 still in the first quarter.

Dutch Fork outscored Gray Collegiate 28-0 over the remaining three quarters for the 42-14 win. It was the Silver Foxes’ 24th consecutive victory and eighth straight on the road.

Waller finished 14-26 for 272 yards. He was also sacked seven times for -50 yards. Gleaton had five receptions for 142 yards.

Gators win

It was tied 7-7 at halftime after a touchdown run by the Indians’ Wynn Meetze and 4-yard touchdown pass by Brayden Moore to Hayden Myers.

In the third quarter, Darius Carter made an over-the-shoulder catch on a Moore pass and raced down the sidelines 77 yards for the go-ahead score. The Gators went on to win 14-7.

Moore finished 10-17 for 196 yards, 122 on four receptions by Carter. Logan Carter had 22 carries for 96 yards for River Bluff (2-2).

Meetze and Gray Gunter rushed for 96 and 95 yards, respectively, for Gilbert (1-2).

A few miles away, Pelion and Swansea renewed their longstanding rivalry.

It was a back-and-forth battle between two undefeated teams. The Panthers got 184 passing yards and two touchdowns from quarterback Alan Moore, 181 rushing yards and a touchdown from running back Tre Jackson and 144 receiving yards and seven receptions from wide receiver Jai Chuniesingh.

The Tigers’ Deandre Caldwell rushed for two touchdowns, including an 18-yard scamper with seven minutes left to make it 27-26. Patrick Larry rushed in the 2-point conversion and Swansea stopped Pelion on fourth down at the Tiger 26 to pull out the 28-27 win.

Swansea improved to 4-0 for the second straight year, while Pelion dropped to 2-1.
