Northside Christian, Gray Collegiate win holiday tournaments

The holiday season was a rewarding one for Northside Christian Academy girls and Gray Collegiate boys.

The Lady Crusaders continued their best start in school history by winning the Purple Division of the Christmas Classic at Lexington High School. They went 3-0 with dominating wins over public schools Gilbert (66-44), Richland Northeast (50-38) and Saluda (46-22) to improve to 14-0 on the season.

Former Lady Wildcat guard Evie Godfrey earned Player of the Game honors in the final. She averaged 21.3 points at the Classic, followed by Campbell Childers at 14 points a contest.

Chaelyn Tifre and Arabella Yaroszewski both averaged over 10 rebounds in three games.

At Greenville High School, the Gray Collegiate boys’ basketball team ended 2024 by winning the Palmetto bracket of the C. Dan Joyner Poinsettia Classic.

The War Eagles opened play with a 64-49 win over Powdersville. Hunter McGraw scored 21 points, Levi Ball had 14 points and Quan McDuffie finished with 12 points in the win.

The following day saw Ball post a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds in a 62-43 win over Westside. He closed out play at the Classic with 18 points and seven rebounds in a 59-42 victory over Goose Creek in the final.

L.J. Britt had 13 points and six rebounds for Gray Collegiate (5-6).
