Open Letter

Mary: “John, your anonymous opinion letter asserting Cayce Citizens are concerned about how Council is handling ATax, or the SC Accommodations Tax, is accurate on only ONE point, we ARE concerned.

But that’s the only point which was correct. Writing anonymously, Tim James needs someone to stand up on his behalf, is weak at best and corrupt at worst.

The Cayce Mayor is the only member of Council who is actually following the law. Shouldn’t that be the minimum requirement for all members of Council to agree upon?

There is a SC State law that states any organization, who gets ATax money, must provide a budget.” Over four Council meetings, requests have been made and the Chamber hasn’t produced a proposed budget.

The Chamber received a letter from the City of Cayce stating they must provide a budget by June 9. And yet, the Chamber still hasn’t or won’t provide a budget.

As a taxpayer in Cayce, I expect the ATax money to bring results for our tourism-related businesses (hotels, restaurants, shops). I have no confidence the Chamber can accomplish this.

Chamber staff is focused on Chamber members, not tourism. They do not have one staff person, whose job is, to increase tourism for Cayce.

Not providing a budget, after a formal letter request from the City of Cayce staff, and ignoring requests made during four Council meetings, makes it not only “look corrupt”, but “smell corrupt.” At the very least, it’s inept.

I expect better from the Cayce Mayor Pro Tem and the Chamber Executive Director and CEO.”

Many Lawfully-Abiding and Concerned Cayce Citizens
