Exciting Golf News for the Community (Page 172)

There is exciting golf news for our community. First, E Rutherford, the general manager of LinRick GC is part of a brand new initiative to introduce Golf in a unique but fun way to the general public locally. This initiative is through the local parks and has Family as its central theme. Each separate program features a “Learn through Play” curriculum. Each of the local recreation entities, including ICRC, RCC, & LRAC is involved in offering youth, ladies, and senior programs with the above-mentioned Family Jr. serving as its “centerpiece.”

LinRick, the only County owned and operated golf course serves as the host course and Rutherford comes from a family where recreation has been a major part of his family since he was a kid. “Every day we went to the park, mom, dad, brothers, the entire family, and even my dog Sarge would go. In fact, Sarge snuck over there more than all of us because they fed him hotdogs! We had some sort of pick-up game every single day at the park. If we weren’t playing we we were watching. It was what we did and it was family fun.”

Rutherford was on the original staff at Timberlake and Indian River when the “Winter Youth Golf Tour “ was started through both ICRC and LRAC in 1993.
Rutherford also was an SCJGA chapter director for 20+ years. He’s coached high school, college and even this year coached B team baseball at Irmo.

Over the next couple of weeks, more on the Rec-Golf program including registration will be available. Here are the websites:

Congratulations to Sam Jackson for he is on a heater run. 2022 South Carolina Golf Association Player of the Year recently fired 17 under for three rounds at the Cliffs Mountain Park course to win the 2023 Carolinas Mid-Amateur Championship. He followed that up with a Carolinas 4-ball championship when he teamed with Jordon Sease. The duo was unbeatable at Camden Country Club a couple of weeks ago.

Stay tuned, for next week there will be drive chip and putt results and more summer Golf news!
