Praise is Good

Praise is Good

By Dr. Jed N. Snyder

Giving praise for that which is good is one aspect of life we should embrace.

Here is one of the many ways that the psalmist of old expressed some of his praise.

Praise the LORD. Praise the name of the LORD, give praise, O servants of the LORD, Psalm 135:1

If we are fortunate enough to spend some time reading and thinking about these psalms of praise, we will be lifted up and will draw others up as well.

When things seem to be going well and we are full of hope, it is rather easy to praise the Lord.

However, when we are in pain, when we feel lonely, when we feel without direction, we can stop for a little a give praise. One young lady that I know was going through a very difficult stretch with her husband.

She began to give thanks to the Lord for him even when he was not being faithful to his wedding vows. She started at the top of his head and praised the Lord for his eyes, his mouth then his shoulders, his torso and so on down his whole being. She found that praising God in tough times renewed her strength and helped her have the courage to carry on in difficult times.

When we praise the name of an individual, we are giving credit to that person. We are reminding others of what the name stands for. The name Jesus Christ means a great deal to many of us who are his disciples. That name focuses our attention on his greatness, his goodness, his salvation.

We are in the midst of another week. We don’t know the end but we can praise our Lord for the now.
