The blizzard that overwhelmed Lake Murray postponed the start of the S.C. High School League wrestling playoffs.
Last Friday, the S.C. High School League released a memo in which it temporarily suspended the team playoffs. This affected four Cayce/West Columbia based-schools scheduled to open first and second round matchups Saturday:
(BOYS)
River Bluff vs. Fort Dorchester (at Stratford)
Airport at Hilton Head
Georgetown at Swansea
Pelion at Mid-Carolina
(GIRLS)
Stratford at River Bluff
Commissioner Jerome Singleton cited the severe inclement weather which swept through portions of the state this weekend.
“We will continue to monitor the weather and its aftermath to determine when the wrestling playoffs will safely resume,” he stated. “The safety and well-being of our student-athletes, coaching staff, and spectators is one of our main focuses.”
During the suspension, schools are not allowed to make up any regular-season matches. The league will provide an updated playoff schedule when its available.
