August 5, 2024, LEXINGTON, S.C. — The leadership of the Lexington One Educational Foundation was pleased to recently receive a generous donation from the youth of BAPS Charities. The in-kind donation included 10 large boxes filled with nearly 2,500 school supply items, featuring over 100 backpacks, notebooks, pencils, pens, markers, highlighters, glue sticks, pencil sharpeners, rulers, erasers, and pencil pouches, among other essentials.
These school supplies will be distributed by Lexington District One social workers to students with the greatest need as they return to classrooms in the coming week. The district serves more than 28,000 students, many of whom will benefit from these much-needed classroom items.
Vandan Shah, a leader of BAPS Charities and a former Educational Foundation Board Member, shared, “Our Spiritual Leader His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj lived and taught us the motto, ‘In the joy of others lies our own.’ As you can see through our website, BAPS Charities supports those in need wherever possible globally.”
Julie Anderson Washburn, Executive Director of the Educational Foundation, expressed gratitude, saying, “We are extremely thankful to the youth of BAPS Charities who took the time to collect so many school supplies for our students. In doing so, they not only help students whose families are struggling but also raise awareness of the needs of many of our Lexington District One students. We have received donations from several local businesses this year, but this is by far the largest in-kind donation we have received. BAPS Charities Columbia is a generous philanthropic partner, helping Lexington District One students start the school year better prepared to learn.”
