It’s time to get in the patriotic spirit and celebrate America’s birthday on Lake Murray! Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board is proud to host the 35th annual 4th of July Celebration on Lake Murray on Saturday, July 1, presented by Lexington Medical Center.
Kicking off the festivities at noon, enjoy the Patriotic Boat Parade as locals & visitors decorate their boats in ways that will leave you amazed! This year’s theme is “Red, White, Blue, and You”. Participants are encouraged to show off “What July 4th means to you”. The annual boat parade begins at 12 p.m. at Bomb Island and is viewable from the park sites at the Lake Murray Dam after 12:30 p.m. Entry is FREE and there are cash prizes! Register online at LakeMurrayFireworks.com through June 23, at the Lake Murray Country Visitor Center (2184 N. Lake Drive, Columbia) or by phone at 803-781-5940 by June 30.
“This year’s boat parade theme is red, white, blue, and you. We look forward to seeing boaters express what patriotism means to them. Capital City/Lake Murray Country is proud of Lake Murray and honored to be the largest fireworks show in SC.” said Vickie Davis, Vice President of Special Events and Funding at Capital City/Lake Murray Country.
South Carolina’s largest fireworks show will take place at dark, approximately 9:30 p.m. from two lake locations, Spence and Dreher Island. The show is synchronized to a patriotic concert that will air simultaneously on the Cumulus Media radio station B106.7 WTCB. Both park sites at the Lake Murray Dam will be open until they reach capacity. Dreher Island State Park is 30 miles from Columbia and 12 miles off I-26 (via Chapin exit #91). Follow the visible brown State Park signage for easy navigation. All normal fees will apply at park sites, boat launching sites, and Marinas on Lake Murray. Should thunder and lightning occur and cause a postponement, the fireworks will take place on Sunday, July 2 without the parade.
The fireworks are funded through Capital City/Lake Murray Country’s fundraising efforts at the Taste of Lake Murray each year, private donations, and the support of the following sponsors: Lexington Medical Center, Dominion Energy, First Community Bank, Palm Beach Tan, WhiteWater Landing on Lake Murray, Michelin, DoubleTree by Hilton, and Tidewater Boats. Donations are accepted year-round at the Visitor’s Center (2184 North Lake Drive, Columbia), or at LakeMurrayCountry.com/donate.
