Blowfish join with Diamond Prospects to hold Fall Star Games

By Thomas Grant Jr.

The home of the Lexington County Blowfish remains an active place even in the off-season.

At Thursday’s Annual World Series Networking Hour & Community Luncheon in the Stadium Club, the team announced plans to partner with Diamond Prospects for a  two-day event involving top local high school baseball prospects.

The Midlands Fall-Star Game will take place Oct. 29-30 at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

Organized by Austin Alexander, Diamond Prospects has leagues in the Upstate, Lowcountry and Rock Hill and the Midlands. He said the leagues allow players to have access to facilities to collaborate with their coaches during the fall and get valuable practice reps in preparation for the upcoming spring season.

There are currently 21 teams competing in the Midlands League during the six-week season. The rosters includes players from last year’s Class 5A champion Lexington, River Bluff, Chapin, Irmo and Blythewood.

According to Alexander, they will pick the “cream of the crop” from those regular season games to participate in the two Fall-Star Games. Those players on the National Select team include infielders Walker Godwin, Maddox Free, Dom Norton and Banks Alexander and pitchers Dalton Corley and Ashley Powell, all of River Bluff; Troy catcher commit Caden Reeves, infielder Bobby Gummere and pitchers Charlie Mejia, Ty Harper, and Reece Jolley, all of Chapin.

The American Select has a bulk of players on this year’s defending state champion Wildcats. Pitchers Brandon Cromer, a University of South Carolina commit, The Citadel commit Jack Cooper Reider Carlson and Grant Kissner, infielders Christian Spivey, USC-Aiken commit Toby Sobieralski and Bryce Mobley and outfielders Logan Blight and Florence-Darlington Technical College commit Lincoln Hill.

Mid-Carolina pitchers Blake Mills, Lawson Lawrence and College of Charleston commit Kaden Myers and Irmo infielders Dylan White, Kyler Baker, Elliott Graham and Coker commit Jaylen Fray.

The event is free to the public and starts both nights at 6:45 p.m.

In addition, Diamond Prospects will hold its 19th annual, two-day “open” Fall Showcase at River Bluff High School. The Nov. 2-3 event is for high school students from 2025-28 and Friday is the deadline for registration.

In other Blowfish-related news, the team will hold a blood rally Oct. 30 from noon to five in the Stadium Club. Appointments are available online by clicking on the link at www.blowfishbaseball.com.

The stadium is also the site for Lexington Medical Center’s Run Hard event on Nov. 9. There will be a Half Marathon, a Run Hard10K and a Toby K 5K. The registration link is also available on the team website.

The 2025 Blowfish season opens May 29 at Florence, with the home opener against the Macon Bacon the following night.
