Brookland-Cayce teams head to holidays

Brookland-Cayce’s winter sports teams are working their way toward the Winter Break with only a few games to go before the holidays start next week, and they are going to be busy then, too.

In Week Two competition last week the varsity basketball teams recorded a total of one win and three losses in midlands area road games, but the Bearcats will be at home this week playing host to two of those teams they recently saw on the road.

After opening the season with a win at Columbia High November 30, the Lady Bearcats took two losses last week; one at Camden and the other at Dreher. It was 46-28 in the loss to Camden and 49-28, Dreher over BC, in back-to-back games last week.

At 1-2 as this week began, Brookland-Cayce was to play host to Columbia on Tuesday, and the Dreher Blue Devils will visit BC on Friday with a tip-off time at 6 pm.

After also starting the regular season with a victory at Columbia High, the BC varsity boys lost their first game last week to Camden 53-48, but then defeated the Blue Devils at Dreher the following night 55-44 to finish Week Two at 2-1.

The Bearcats will also be at home for two games this week: Columbia High was in on Tuesday, and Dreher will visit Friday at 7:30 pm.

Before the holiday break begins next Thursday, both the varsity girls and boys teams will play at Swansea on Tuesday – girls at 6:30 and boys at 8 pm – but then they go separate ways until the beginning of the new year.

The boys will go north as the District Two holidays begin December 20 to take on Dorman at 7 pm. Then the Bearcats play in the first of two-holiday tournaments when they go out on the road again Friday and Saturday, next week, to compete in the tournament at Hemingway High.

And they are also set to play closer to home after Christmas Day when they compete in the annual Chapin Holiday Tournament at Chapin.

While the boys are playing at Dorman and Hemingway next week the girls will be competing in the Ridge View holiday tournament closer to home Thursday through Saturday.

Both teams resume the regular schedule January 4, 2019.

Brookland-Cayce’s varsity wrestling team lost a couple of matches last week in a tri-match with Cardinal Newman and Blythewood and then a second tri-match with Ridge View and Dreher. After two matches this week and another early next week, the Bearcats will join the holiday tournament action when they compete in the annual Eagle Duals at Airport High School December 22.

Along with the flurry of games and tournaments through the end of the year, many will also observe and celebrate Christmas and New Years Day, and then it all gets going again when the new year begins.
